Philosophy and Environmental Studies

Sandra Shapshay is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Political and Civic Engagement Program (PACE) at Indiana University Bloomington and Affiliate faculty of the IU Center for Bioethics in Indianapolis. Her areas of specialization include Schopenhauer, Kant, the history of aesthetics and ethics in 19th century continental philosophy, and bioethics. She is currently working on a book on Schopenhauer’s ethics titled provisionally Degrees of Dignity: Schopenhauer’s Ethical Thought. She also currently serves as an Indiana State Council member of the Humane Society of the United States and as a board member of the nonprofit group Pets Alive in Bloomington.
